Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetic foot care is a critical part in managing diabetes to prevent and reduce the risk of complications, such as ulcerations/amputations.


Importance of Diabetic Foot Care:

Lack of diabetic control can lead to complications such as, diabetic neuropathy, foot deformities (hammertoes, charcot foot), Peripheral vascular disease (Circulatory problems), delayed wound healing, and increased risk of amputations


Components of Diabetic Foot Care:
  1. Daily inspection of feet for unusual lesions, redness, blisters, signs of infection, open cuts/wounds

  2. Routine foot care including nail and callus care 

  3. Proper foot hygiene by making sure to wash and dry the feet with a towel. 

  4. Using a good foot moisturizer daily to help repair cracks, fissures, and calluses 

  5. Immediate treatment of foot issues 

  6. Routine check-ups with Chiropodists
