Plantar Fasciitis

One of the most common causes of heel and arch pain. Seeking treatment can significantly improve your quality of life.
What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia which leads to heel pain, there may be micro tears within the fascia as a result of overuse as well. Sometimes, heel pain may become chronic, causing thickening and degeneration of the plantar fascia. In these cases, there is no inflammation present in the plantar fascia region, but significant fibrosis and scar tissue builds in the region. This is referred to as plantar fasciosis.
Causes and Risk Factors of Plantar Fasciitis
Overuse injury - chronic stress due to doing too much too quickly
Biomechanics - individuals with flatfeet or high arches tend to place significant pressure on the heels and plantar fascia
Footwear - improper footwear such as high heels can cause stress on plantar fascia
Fat pad atrophy with age
Increased age
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis and other related conditions
Obesity
Occupation/lifestyle - runners and individuals that are on their feet in their work environment are more prone to developing heel pain
