Orthotics for Adults and Children

Orthotic therapy involves custom insoles to help align, support, reduce, prevent. or correct abnormalities and biomechanical dysfunction impacting the foot, ankle, knee, hip, and the back.

Two Types of Orthotics:

1. Functional Orthotics

  • These try to correct the deformity - they correct the function

  • Good for soft tissue problems - prescribed along with muscle stretching exercises

2. Accommodative Orthotics

  • these accommodate for the deformity and do not correct the deformity

  • Good for providing cushioning/offloading/pressure redistribution

  • Used for neuromuscular conditions and osseous issues that cannot be resolved

Orthotic Components
  1. Top Cover - optional part of orthotic, it gives more cushioning

  2. Shell - this is the functional part of orthotic that helps correct deformity, it is the most important part

  3. Heel Stabilizer - this stabilizes the heel by preventing medial or lateral shift, but also you can do rf post

  4. Bottom cover - optional for more cushioning
