Custom orthotics are devices that can help reduce symptoms associated with many foot and ankle conditions.
Custom Orthotics for Heel Pain
There are two major types of orthotics; functional and accommodative. Functional orthotics are designed to correct deformity and foot function, they can help reduce strain on certain muscle and ligaments to improve soft tissue problems. Accommodative orthotics will accommodate for the deformity without correcting the deformity. Custom orthotics will redistribute pressure from certain areas, provide cushioning, and stabilize the foot, the ankle, and the lower limb.
Studies have shown that Custom orthotics is an effective long-term treatment option for pain management. Many studies concluded that custom orthotics successfully reduced pain associated with plantar fasciitis, particularly greater reduction in the first-step pain. Studies have also concluded that custom orthotics reduces the pressure/stress on the plantar fascia and cause a reduction in the thickness of plantar fascia that was seen in the ultrasound imaging results.
